Blog Post #4

There are two different ways in which I can do this lesson. Both ways to do this lesson would be more for kindergarten or first grade. The first way is I would take pictures around the room of different things, or outside etc. And I will have the students say what the picture is out loud. For example: there is a picture of a baby so I would have the children say baby and then have them figure out what the first letter of the word is. I would pass out the papers have each student do it on their own and then write in the letter. Underneath it I could also leave some lines and they can practice writing that specific letter, if I needed more for them to do. Another way I could present this lesson is for the students to actually go around the room and take pictures of different things that start with a certain letter. For example: I would give each student a letter and they would take the camera around and find something in the room that starts with that letter and take a picture of it. I would then combine all the pictures that were taken from the students and make a book for each child and they would have to fill in the first letter of each picture. This example would be an example page the book, or it could even be for the first lesson in just a sheet I pass out for them to fill out.

This is an amazing lesson plan!! I feel that the students will really engage in the activities that you plan for them. I think that these various activities are a good way to introduce the students to phonics. The students are able to learn sounds of letters and what each letter looks like. I think that it very important in a young child's education!

I really like the idea of making a book for the children! I know when I was in elementary school I loved being able to take things like that home and show my family! My only question is do you think children at a kindergarten level can handle using a digital camera? Other than that great work though!

I enjoyed reading about your lesson plan. I think taking pictures of things around the room or outside is a wonderful idea because those are items that the children would probably see on a daily basis and that would help them be able to practice outside of the classroom. One concern I have is I am wondering if a child who is in kindergarten would be able to pick out an item that starts with whatever letter you give them. I am not sure if they would be advanced enough to complete that assignment, but maybe I am wrong. As a teacher, if you realized that particular part of the assignment would be slightly too difficult, how might you accommodate it so that the students are still getting the same learning experience, just slightly easier? Also, I really liked how you incorporated technology within your lesson. Teaching the students to use a digital camera is a wonderful idea because everything today basically seems to run off of technology and I do not believe that it is ever too early to introduce different types of technology to children. Overall, your lesson is a wonderful idea and I believe that it is very fitting to kindergarten aged children! Good job!

I think this is a great lesson plan. I think the students will be really engaged and enjoy it. I do not know if I would allow young children to use a digital camera, but you could have them go around the room and draw pictures of certain items. I really like how the book takes the work from all the students and combines it into a class project. Great idea!

I feel like this is a very well planned out lesson! It's thorough and in depth. The students would learn a lot through this lesson because they would be doing so many different things and putting what they learned into action. They are doing this by taking pictures on their own, or when they fill in the missing letter of the word. I am kind of questioning if this is something that kindergarteners would be able to do. I feel like it's really complex for them, but it would definitely be worth a try. I think the plan is great!
